Ranji Trophy Elite Round B

Tamil Nadu batsmen followed the template set by their Hyderabad counterparts on another day when bowlers were made to toil. In reply to the visitors 565/8d, the hosts crawled to 163/2 in 79 overs, still trailing by 402 runs on Day 3 of their Ranji Trophy 2018-19, Elite Group B, Round 2 clash in Tirunelveli.

Hyderabad had already made their intentions of batting out TN clear on Day 2. on Wednesday, captain Akshath Reddy added two runs to his overnight tally 0f 248 before becoming the eighth wicket to fall. The pair of Chama Milind (33*) and Mehdi Hasan (14*) had added 27 runs between them when Hyderabad ended TN bowler’s misery by declaring their innings that lasted 186 overs

Kaushik Gandhi scored closed to a strike-rate of 18 before Milind cleaned him up on 21 off 117 to break TN’s opening stand which was worth 80 runs. Baba Aparajith fell cheaply on 4 but captain Baba Indrajith continued the tradition, remaining unbeaten on 24 off 102.

Abhinav Mukund went on to score his 27th first-class century. He has struck 15 fours in his unbeaten 101 off 239 so far. Judging by their scoring rate and the gap, they still trail by 402 runs with a day’s play remaining, Hyderabad look set to claim three points on the basis of first-innings lead, unless TN batsmen decide to shift gear.
