Ranji Trophy 2018-19, Elite Group C: Services 48/2 in reply to Jharkhand’s 193

Services moved to 48 for 2 after dismissing Jharkhand for 193 in the first innings of their Round 7 tie of the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy, Group C match at the JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi on Saturday. Left-arm spinner Arun Bamal was the pick of the bowlers for Services, picking up 4 for 37, while Diwesh Pathania and Raushan Raj scalped two wickets each.

Opting to bowl, Services had Jharkhand in early wobble as opener Nazim Siddiqui and No. 3 batsman Utkarsh Singh were dismissed cheaply for 0 and 3 respectively. Kumar Deobrat and Saurabh Tiwary added 67 runs for the third wicket, combining for 10 boundaries one six between themselves. The stand was broken by Pathania as Deobrat fell two short of a fifty. Ishank Jaggi missed out having scored 10 to leave Jharkhand 4 down for 100 before captain Ishan Kishan got together with Tiwary and to add 57 valuable runs.

But once the partnership was broken Tiwary bowled by Raushan Jharkhand lost their way. Bamal s first wicket was of Kishan, the Jharkhand captain, after which he ran through the lower order to keep the total to under 200.

In reply, Services started positively with openers Nakul Sharma and Navneet Singh putting on 31 runs for the opening wicket before both were dismissed by Shahbaz Nadeem and Varun Aaron respectively without a run being added. Anshul Gupta and Ravi Chauhan took the score to 48 before the opening day came to a finish, behind Jharkhand by 145 runs
