Ranji Trophy 2018-19, Plate Group, round 5: Sikkim in trouble despite brave show against Puducherry

Puducherry continued to impress in their Plate fixture of the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy where they made Sikkim follow-on and had them finish Day 3 of the fifth round on 105 for 3, behind by 295 runs. Resuming the day on 48 for 5, Sikkim recovered bravely through Milind Kumar and Bipul Sharma, who played crucial knocks to take the total to 247 in the first innings. Pankaj Singh and captain Rohit David took 3 for 21 and 3 for 67.

In danger of being bowled out inside 100, Milind and Sharma added an inspiring 104 runs for the seventh wicket before the stand was broken by a terrific run out by Akshay Jain of Sharma. With seven down, Milind batted with the tail to add 67 runs before missing out on a century by four runs.

Following on, Sikkim lost opener Bibek Dayali in the first over of the match before his partner and Nilesh Lamichaney and Asish Thapa revived the innings through a 79-run partnership for the second wicket. However, both batsmen were dismissed in a span of 20 runs with Abhishek Nayar getting the Sikkim skipper Lamichaney out caught for 41, and Rohit trapping Thapa out LBW having a half-century.
