Ashutosh Aman’s all-round heroics earned Bihar their first win of the Ranji Trophy 2018-19 season on day three of round four of the tournament.

Bihar beat Sikkim by 395 runs to walk away with six points at the Moin ul haq stadium, Patna on Friday.

After Ashutosh’s fighting 89 in the first innings had helped Bihar from 115/7 to 288, the left arm spinner claimed 5/19 as Sikkim were bundled out for 81. However, instead of enforcing the follow on and not aiming for a win win bonus point, Bihar opted to bat and posted 296/7 declared, thus setting Sikkim a stiff target of 504 runs.

Starting the day at 150/4, Bihar lost Keshav Kumar early for 36 as Milind Kumar picked up his fourth wicket. But Utkarsh Bhaskar (59) and Vikas Ranjan (55) combined for a stand of 90 runs for the sixth before Ashutosh’s unbeaten 17 took Bihar to 296/7 declared.

In chase, Sikkim never got going as they were bundled out for 108. Ashutosh claimed his second five-wicket haul of the match claiming 5/22 while fellow spinner Samar Quadri picked 5/32. for Sikkim, Milind Kumar failed once again scoring 13. Bipul Sharma top-scored with 32 while Lee Yong Lepcha made 23.
