After being put in to bat, Jharkhand were off to steady start with the top three batsmen getting starts, but they failed to covert. Kumar Deobrat scored 29 off 75, while Nazim Siddiqui made 23 off 57 and Utkarsh Singh reached 21 off 76. But the openers removed by Basant Mohanty while Rajesh Mohanty accounted for Utkarsh.

Saurabh Tiwary fell cheaply to Govind Poddar for 7. Ishan Jaggi scored 34 before becoming Rajesh Mohanty second victim of the day. The lower-order though consolidate on the start given by the top five as Basant Mohanty finished with 5/44 while Rajesh Mohanty finished with 3/51. Dhiraj Singh and Poddar added one scalp each as Jharkhand were bowled out for 172.

In reply, Varun Aaron trapped Rajesh Dhuper and Govind Poddar for 0 and 4, respectively, before Ankul Roy ran out Subhranshu Senapati for 0 as Odisha ended the day at 27/3.
