Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019 Group B Round 6

Himachal Pradesh knocked out Rajasthan from the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019 beating them by nine runs in Surat on Thursday.

Riding on captain Ankush Bains 55 off 47 with help of handy knocks from allrounder Rishi Dhawan (38*) and Nikhil Gangta (23*), Himachal posted a decent 150/5 after opting to bat.

Rajasthan, who needed to win to keep their chances of making it to the Super League stage alive, fell short, finishing on 141/7. Ankit Maini (3/29) and Kanwar Abhinay Singh (2/26) starred with the ball with Himachal claiming their fourth win of the season.

Himachal’s hopes of progressing to the next stage now depend on other results despite a win in their sixth and final round match.

Earlier, openers Bains and Prashant Chopra (21) lead a cautious start adding 46 runs in 8.1 overs before Ravi Bishnoi provide Rajasthan their first breakthrough.

Rahul Chahar then struck twice in the 10th over, reducing Himachal to 52/3. Bains and Dhawan then steered the innings forward, taking the score to 111.

Bains was the fourth wicket to fall after hitting five fours and a six. Khaleel Ahmed then bowled Nitin Sharma for a two-ball duck in the 17th over.

Dhawan and Gangta then added 30 runs in quick time to push them to a solid total.

Rajasthan lost opener Manender Singh in the third over before recovering through Chetan Bist (34) and captain Mahipal Lomror (27) who added 59 runs for the second wicket.

Ankit Maini (3/29) struck twice in the 10th over with removing both Bist and Lomror before picking up his third wicket in Aditya Garhwal (12).

Rajasthan’s hopes rested on Robin Bist but they ended when run out for 34 in the final over. Kanwar Abhinay took two wickets in the same over to finish with 2/26.
