Prithvi Shaw struck his first half-century since returning to competitive cricket as Mumbai beat Goa by six wickets to bag four points in a Group C match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019. Shaw top-scored with 71 with five boundaries and seven sixes and captain Ajinkya Rahane contributed with 31 as Mumbai won in 18.2 overs.

Goa did reasonably well after opting to bat but with the kind of starts their batsmen, you would have expected a bigger score. Goa fell at least 20 runs short with no batsmen being able to convert a start into a half-century. Skipper Amogh Desai scored 38 off 24 with six fours and a six. Amit Verma and Keenan Vaz entered the 20s but fell to Dhawal Kulkarni and Shardul Thakur respectively.

Shaw and Rahane got Mumbai off the blocks putting 95 runs for the opening wicket before Vijesh Prabhudesai provided Goa the breakthrough. Shaw’s dismissal to Darshan Missal triggered a mini collapse which saw Mumbai lose three wickets for 10 runs before Suryakumar Yadav took 24 off 19 and took Mumbai home in the company of Aditya Tare.

Brief Scores: Mumbai 141 for 4 (Prithvi Shaw 71, Ajinkya Rahane 31; Darshan Misal 1/19) beat Goa 140 for 4 (Amogh Desai 38, Amit Verma 27; Shubham Ranjane 1/19) by six wickets.
