Chhattisgarh blew away Odisha in their opening match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019, Group D, round 1, recording a 10-wicket win on Thursday.

After bowling out Odisha for 137, Chhattisgarh openers struck half-centuries to chase down the target in 16.1 overs without dropping a sweat.

Harpreet Singh called correctly at the coin toss and opted to field. His new ball bowlers vindicated his decision as they left Odisha reeling at 37/4 inside the Powerplay overs. Pankaj Rao (2/23) struck twice while Shakeeb Ahmed (2/22) and Aishwarya Mourya (3/20) picked a wicket each in the first six overs.

Mourya would go on to add two more to his tally while Shakeeb added one more as Odisha continued to lose wickets regularly. If it wasn’t for their captain Subhranshu Senapati who kept fighting from his end, scoring 51 off 37 and No. 10 Rajesh Mohanty (36 off 24), Odisha would have been bowled out for a doubled-digit total.

In reply, Rishabh Tiwari struck an unbeaten 71 off 55 which saw him belting seven fours and two sixes while his opening partner, Shashank Chandraker was equally effective. scoring 57 not out off 43 deliveries with the help of six fours and two sixes.

Senapati used seven bowlers but nobody managed to take a wicket as Chhattisgarh sailed to a dominating win at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.

Brief Scores: Chhattisgarh 138/0 (Rishabh Tiwary 71*, Shashank Chandraker 57*) beat Odisha 136 (Subhranshu Senapati 51; Aishwarya Mourya 3/20) by 10 wickets
