Former India under-19 star Atit Sheth claimed career-best 5/13 as Baroda registered an eight-wicket win over Tripura in Round 1 of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019 Group E match at the Palam A Stadium, New Delhi on Thursday.

After opting to bat first, Tripura were jolted early with Sheth removing opener Joydeep Banik with the first ball of the match. Udiyan Bose and Nirupam Sen Chowdhary added 32 runs for the second wicket before both the set batsmen were removed by left-arm spinner Bhargav Bhatt. Bose departed for 14 while Chowdhary was removed after scoring 21.

Swapnil Singh trapped Ninad Kadam for 6 to leave Tripura reeling at 44/4, but there was no respite as Sheth in his second spell picked four wickets in the form of Pratyush Singh (10), Kaushal Acharjee (15), Sanjay Majumdar (4) and Saurabh Das (0) as Tripura were all out for 100 in 19 overs. Swapnil Singh claimed 2/8 while Deepak Hooda returned 1/22.

In reply, Baroda’s opening pair of Kedar Devdhar (24) and Vishnu Solanki (32) added 52 runs in 8.1 overs, but both departed in quick succession to Tushar Saha. Hooda (18*) and Yusuf Pathan (19*) then anchored the chase, overhauling the target in 16.5 overs.

Brief Scores: Baroda 101/2 (Vishnu Solanki 32; Tushar Saha 2/29) beat Tripura 100 (Nirupam Sen Chowdhary 21; Atit Sheth 5/13) by eight wickets.
