Maharashtra through to next round after Tripura washout

Maharashtra secured their passage to the Super League stage of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy after their match with Tripura was washed out in Delhi. At the Palam Cricket Ground, Maharashtra, batted first and scored 50 for the loss of three wickets before rain forced players of both team teams out of the ground and play never resumed.

Tripura won the toss and elected to field. Maharashtra were jolted early after Sanjay Majumdar and Kamal Das removed openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and captain Rahul Tripathi cheaply. Naushad Sheikh was the final wicket to fall for 9 – to captain Manisankar Murasingh before play was called off.

The washout made sure that Maharashtra progressed through to the next round, ending with 22 points having played their seven matches. Uttar Pradesh are on 18 points with one match left, and even of they win, Maharashtra are guaranteed to go through. Tripura on the other hand, remain seventh in the Group but can finish with the wooden spoon provided Puducherry win their final match.

Brief Scores: Maharashtra 50 for 3 in 4 overs (Rahul Tripathi 16, Ruturaj Gaekwad 13; Kamal Das 1/9) against Tripura.
