Assam continued their good form in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019 beating heavyweights Bengal in their fourth Group D game by 26 runs at the Barabati Stadium, Cuttack on Monday. (ALSO READ: Nitish Rana leads Delhi to seven-wicket win over Kerala)

After being put in to bat, Assam lost openers Swarupam Purkayastha for a five-ball duck and Pallavkumar Das for ten to Ashok Dinda. But, experienced Sibsankar Roy and youngster Riyan Parag added 137 runs for the third wicket in 16.3 overs.

Parag scored 52 off 47 hitting five fours and a six while Das’ knock off 83 came  off just 53 balls including 12 fours and a six. Dinda finished with 4/17 in his four overs as Assam ended at 162/5 in their 20 overs.

In reply, Bengal stuttered and found themselves four down for just 38 runs by the eight over. Opener Vivek Singh was removed by pacer Mukhtar Hussain for 1 while Kanishk Seth was run out for six. Abhimanyu Easwaran was sent packing by Pritam Das for 12 while Pallavkumar got the big fish Manoj Tiwary for 3.

With the wicket of Wriddhiman Saha in the 12 over for 11 by Hussain, Bengal’s chances of claiming a win faded away. Opener Shreevats Goswami put up a lone resistance scoring 43 off 40 before falling to Parag in the in the 16th over. Dinda made an unbeaten 20 off 14 balls as Bengal finished at 136/9 in their 20 overs, losing the match by 26 runs.
