Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019 Group A

Maharashtra further solidified their chances of making it to the final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019 after beating Jharkhand in Indore on Monday.

Half-centuries from Ankit Bawne (64*) and Vijay Zol (50) took Maharashtra to 153/4 before Satyajeet Bachhav (3/17) starred with the ball to keep Jharkhand to 139/8.

Maharashtra captain Rahul Tripathi opted to bat at the Emerald High School Ground and suffered early jolts with Varun Aaron (2/22) striking in successive overs to send their openers back cheaply.

The right-arm pacer first had Tripathi caught for 3 in the third over before removing Ruturaj Gaikwad (12) in the fifth over leaving them 22/2.

The run out of Naushad Shaikh (5) only compounded their early struggles before Zol and Bawne stabilised the innings. The pair added 86 runs for the fourth wicket taking the score to 130/3 in 17.3 overs before Vikash Singh (1/23) separated them.

Zol departed after hitting seven fours but Bawne remained unbeaten with three fours and four sixes to his name.

Jharkhand had a similar start to their chase with pacer Samad Fallah (2/41) striking in his first two overs to remove their openers. However, unlike Maharashtra, who were able to recover from the early jolts, the Anand Singh-led outfit failed to rebuild.

Regular strikes kept them on the backfoot. They were reduced to 95/8 in 15.5 overs with Satyajeet Bachhav (3/17) causing the bulk of the damage. Vikash Singh launched a late comeback with a bristling knock that saw him hitting three fours and as many sixes in 29-ball 46.

Rahul Shukla contributed with 16 not out off 8 deliveries but they ran out of overs. With this defeat, Jharkhand are out for contention for the final after losing two of their four matches of the Super league stage.

Brief Scores: Maharashtra 153/4 (Ankit Bawne 64, Vijay Zol 50; Varun Aaron 2/22) beat Jharkhand 139/8 (Vikash Singh 46*; Satyajeet Bachhav 3/17) by 14 runs
