Ruby Trichy Warriors’ dry run extended to fourth match as they lost to Madurai Panthers in the 16th tie of the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2019 in Dindigul on Wednesday. Out of contention India Test opener, Murali Vijay and K Mukunth (32 off 32) played a pivotal role at the start for Trichy as they put on 98 runs for the first wicket in 13.3 overs.

Mukunth didn’t take too many risks and assisted Vijay well, who struck two sixes and eight boundaries in his knock. Spinner Rahil Shah got the better of Mukunth, who scored run a ball 32, in the 14th over and soon chipped in with another wicket of S Aravind (0) in the same over.

Mani Bharath (21 off 12) steered the innings but despite a good start, Trichy could only manage 142/6 on the board.

Kiran Akash also scalped two wickets whereas Jagatheesan Kousik got the sole wicket of Chandrasekar Ganapathy.

Arun Karthik dominated the proceedings for Madurai with the bat and out of 32 runs that he added for the first wicket with A Sarath Raj (1 of 8), Karthik’s contribution was 26. Adithya Giridhar 8-ball 15 cameo came to end after he got caught by Ganapathy off M Poiyamozhi.

Laxminarayanan Vignesh sent Karthik (46 off 26) and Shijit Chandran (12 off 14) packing in back-to-back deliveries in 10th over, putting Madurai in a spot of bother. Kousik (35* off 33) held one end tight even as Madurai lost two more wickets.

They needed to score 8 runs in the final over to register their second victory, but it went down to the super over, where it was all about Abhishek Tanwar.

Madurai lost Karthik on the first delivery but Tanwar hit two sixes in the next two deliveries before getting out. Madurai, based on two hits over the boundary, put up 12 runs in four deliveries that they played.

Tanwar’s super over heroics didn’t end there as he successfully defended the total, also getting both the batsmen out for just three runs. He was aptly adjudged as the player of the match for his super over heroics.

Madurai Panthers are at the fourth spot now with two wins and two defeats from four matches.
