This is Vishal Mehra, and I shall be presenting to you the live updates from the game as and when they occur. England won the toss and elected to bat first, as half centuries from Ben Stokes, Alex Hales and Joe Root made England cross the 200 run mark. For South Africa it was Kagiso Rabada who made the difference three important wickets of Alastair Cook, Hales and Root. England going into stumps of Day 1 were comfortably placed at 317 for five with Jonny Bairstow and Stokes remaining not-out on 39* and 74* FULL SCORECARD: South Africa vs England, 2nd Test at Cape Town

South Africa still trail England by 488 runs at stumps on Day Two. Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers have batted well so far and will look to carry their good form into Day Three as well. Here’s Ayush Gupta’s Day 2 report

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 141/2| 43 overs | Trail by 488| Batting: Hashim Amla 64(214) ,AB de Villiers 25(51): South Africa have ended the day well, but they still trail England by 488 runs at stumps. Hashim Amla has reached a half-century and AB de Villiers is supporting him well in the middle. The duo have added 56 for the third wicket and their primary aim on Day Three will be to help the Proteas avoid the follow-on.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 116/2| 35 overs | Batting: Hashim Amla 41*(44) ,AB de Villiers 22(29): Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers have looked together, after the fall of Dean Elgar for 44. Amla and De Villiers have 31* so far in the third wicket stand. De Villiers was lucky to be dropped by Joe Root on five in Slips of James Anderson. South Africa still trail England by 513.

Elgar and Amla were 22 runs away from 100 partnership.AB de Villiers has come to join Amla in the middle with England leading by 544 runs.

Elgar and Amla also bring up their 50 runs partnership stand since the fall of first wicket at 7 runs. Elgar has been positive to Moeen Ali hitting him for a big straight six. South Africa still trail England by 568 runs.

Steven Finn and Moeen Ali are into the attack as England look to pick up wickets with a truck loads of runs to play with. Africa will want Elgar to play a marathon innings as he did in the first Test. Ben Stoke and Jonny Bairstow rocketed the England score past the 600 mark with a 399 run stand for sixth wicket. Kagiso Rabada was the most successful bowler for South Africa picking up three wickets for 175 runs. Earlier in the Over after smashing two consecutive sixes of Kagiso Rabada, Ben Stokes got dropped by AB de Villiers but managed to run him out at the non striker’s end. Stokes got past his 250 with a huge six off 196 balls. This is also the highest ever run by a batsmen at No.6 LIVE CRICKET SCORE: England 622/ 5| 125 overs | Batting: Ben Stokes 242(191), Jonny Bairstow 138(187): Bairstow brings up the 600 for England with a boundary towards third man, which also brings up the highest-ever sixth-wicket stand in Tests. DROPPED! Morkel drops Bairstow on 138 in the following over at wide long-on, with the ball carrying away towards the boundary rope much to the cheer and jeer of the Barmy Army! Poor Morkel will have to endure taunts for quite some time now as Bairstow survives, and can now set his sights on his double-century! LIVE CRICKET SCORE: England 542/ 5| 117.4 overs | Batting: Ben Stokes 215(167), Jonny Bairstow 95(139):HUNDRED!! Jonny Bairstow gets his first Test ton. Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow started from where they ended, from the on-go hitting bowlers. Stokes hit a lovely front foot straight six off Morne Morkel, which was a treat to the eye. Stokes will now look to get 300 runs. Stokes and Bairstow are now on 321* run stand for sixth wicket.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: England 513/ 5| 112 overs | Batting: Ben Stokes 204(167), Jonny Bairstow 95(139): Stokes is on the verge of his maiden Test double-hundred, while Bairstow is on the verge of bringing up his maiden Test ton. The pair are looking indestructible at the moment, as the South African bowlers look completely hapless. Amla is busy shuffling his options around as South Africans look lost at the moment. And Stokes completes his double-ton in style! Pulls Morkel towards midwicket for a boundary to reach the milestone in just 163 deliveries, making it the second-fastest Test double-ton of all time! And that shot also brings up the 500 for England. The visitors are in firm command on a score of 513/5, with Stokes on 204 and Jonny Bairstow just five runs away from his maiden Test hundred. Stokes and Jonny Bairstow have made a mockery of the South African bowling attack hitting sixes and four’s at will. They have also brought up their 225 run partnership. This is also the highest sixth wicket stand at Cape Town.

 

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: England 401/ 5| 98 overs | Batting: Ben Stokes 134(127), Jonny Bairstow 62(71): England cross the 400 run margin within the first hour of play. Ben Stokes in particular has continued his blistering form rather much aggressive self. Jonny Bairstow also brought up his seventh Test half-century. South African bowlers in the first seven overs gave away 64 runs at 9.14 runs per over. Morris has been the least effective of all bowlers more so after the second new ball.

Ben Stokes has been on a roll since morning already hit 4 cracking boundaries through the covers.Runs have leaked from both the ends for South Africa Stokes has hit 16th four’s and one six in his innings of 100 so far. The boundaries keep coming and England have added 49 runs in 4 overs this morning.

 

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: England 327/ 5| 88 overs | Batting: Ben Stokes 82(93), Jonny Bairstow 40(59): Two Fours in the over and Ben Stokes in the 80’s. The first over of the day goes for 10 runs as Stokes smashed two boundaries through the covers. This over also brought up the 100* partnership between Stokes and Bairstow.

Winning the toss Alastair Cook elected to bat first on a track which was looking good for batting. Alex Hales, who is playing his second Test match hit 60 his first ever Test half-century and shared opening stand of 55 with opening partner Cook and 74 for the second wicket with Nick Compton. Compton was out for 45 in the last over before tea when he pulled a ball from Kagiso Rabada and was well caught by a diving Temba Bavuma. Hales reached his half-century off 96 balls but lost momentum and edged Morne Morkel to AB de Villiers in slips. England lost James Taylor to the Kagiso Rabada in the very first delivery in the off final session of play. Ben Stokes onslaught turned the tides in the visitors favour, in his swashbuckling 74 not out.
