The ongoing PakistanSri Lanka series has been an intensely competed one on and off the field. The third T20I of the series is set to be played in Lahore, the very city where Sri Lankans were attacked in 2009. Forty of the Sri Lankan contracted players had earlier showed unwillingness to travel to Pakistan. Skipper Upul Tharanga made himself unavailable for the tour but in a new twist, seven more players have changed their minds.

“As of now, from the 22 players we had in mind, 15 have given consent to go to Lahore. We do not want to upset their preparation for the third ODI, which is on Wednesday. By Thursday, the day after the game, we will have a fair idea who is available. That will give us an opportunity to prune the squad to 15,” a top Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) official told Cricbuzz on Tuesday.

The report mentions Sri Lankan A players Dasun Shanaka, Shean Jayasuriya and Wanindu Hasaranga have agreed to be part of the Lahore match. Earlier, manager Asanka Gurusinha hoped for more players to participate in the game.

Kusal Perera fails

SLC received another blow when Kusal Perera failed his fitness test in Colombo. The southpaw was expected to take over captaincy from Tharanga. The board had earlier mentioned that only the cricketers who are willing to participate in Lahore match will be considered for selection for the entire T20I series. Lasith Malinga is tipped to be a part of the T20I side but he is amongst the group who has objected to tour Lahore. It will be interesting to see where does his selection stand.
