22-year-old loses life in a friendly contest being played at Hyderabad

Certainly this is not the first such instance of a player losing his life on the 22-yard pitch and a 22-year-old passed away after being accidentally hit by a bat by a fellow player. All this happened in a friendly contest Bahadurpura (Hyderabad). Similarly, a few weeks back a teenage cricketer in Bangladesh was allegedly killed by a stump-wielding batsman after he taunted the umpire over a no-ball delivery. Shikdar suggested that the umpire might again favour the batsman, by declaring the bowler’s delivery a no-ball, allowing him to remain at the crease, after the umpire made the same ruling off the previous ball. “It enraged the batsman who picked up a stump and hit Shikdar on the back of his head. Reportedly, Abdul Wajid was playing at the Mir Alam Eidgah Maidan when the fateful incident happened. Whether or not it is a case of a boy hitting him with the bat is yet to be revealed. “After being hit, he fell down on the wickets constructed using stones and fell unconscious. He was taken to a state-run hospital, where he died. Whether it was an accident or he was allegedly hit by someone from another team is being probed,” Bahadurpura inspector T Laxminarayana told NDTV.

In November 2014, Australia‘s opening batsman, Phillip Hughes also succumbed on the field when he suffered a serious head injury facing a bouncer bowled by Sean Abbott. Hughes death shocked the whole cricket fraternity and people from all walks of life expressed grief on social media. A few months after Hughes’ death, Bengal’s budding cricketer Ankit Kesari too succumbed due to injuries sustained on cricket field.
