Australia sealed their first Twenty20I bilateral series win on the Indian soil after Glenn Maxwell’s unbeaten 55-ball 115-run knock powered the visitors to a win in the second T20I at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

Skipper Aaron Finch summed up the series win, saying, “Anytime that you can win any kind of series against India in India is truly special.” (ALSO READ: Australia outplayed us in all departments: Virat Kohli)

While Finch lauded Maxwell, he felt that Adam Zampa’s bowling performance was the difference between the two sides. The leg-spinner conceded just 23 runs in his four overs while the likes Pat Cummins, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Jhye Richardson and part-timer D’Arcy Short went for plenty.

“Glenn Maxwell was truly sensational tonight but I thought Adam Zampa was the difference between the two sides. To go for just 23 runs on that kind of a wicket was really remarkable,” said Finch while discussing Zampa’s role in Australia win.   (ALSO READ: Glenn Maxwell joins Rohit Sharma, Colin Munro with three (or more) T20I hundreds)

Although Australia won this series, they have not enjoyed a good run of form and have not won many series since the ball-tampering scandal in South Africa which led to the bans of Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft. Finch stated that there has been some pain during the journey to the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup and hoped that the defending champions peak at the right time for the event in England.  (ALSO READ: Glenn Maxwell is a freak, can play shots other people can’t: Peter Handscomb)

“We’ve been on a journey for the last 10-11 months building upto the World Cup and there has been some pain during the journey. We’ve done well to take the blows but also have made some progress, hoping to peak at the right time for the World Cup,” concluded Finch.  (READ: Maxwell’s century leads Australia to historic series win)

The two-match T20I series against India will be followed by five-match ODI series and kicks off on March 2 in Hyderabad.
