Rising Indian opener Abhishek Sharma tied the record for registering the fastest T20 century by an Indian. Just days after Urvil Patel had reached his century in 28 balls, Abhishek slammed one in the same number of balls when playing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT).
As he scored this century, he surpassed the legendary Chris Gayle who had smashed his fastest T20 century in 30 balls for RCB during 2013 in a match against Pune.
Abhishek destroyed the Meghalayan bowlers as he secured the milestone in just 9.3 overs as the team was in a chase of 143 runs. 98 runs from the total of Abhishek were just by boundaries, as he smashed 11 sixes and 8 fours. The stocks of the 24-year-old have increased dramatically this year.
Even after his unpredictable style of playing, Abhishek has gathered 256 runs at a strike rate of 171.81 in 12 T20Is for India. As he participated in 63 IPL games, he has managed to gather 1376 runs with strike rate of 155.13.
