Adam Gilchrist‘s father Stan Gilchrist has been awarded Medal of the Order of Australia for his services towards the cricket community.

According to a report in northernstar.com.au, Stan was the founder of Lord’s Taverners Northern New South Wales, an Non-Profit Organization (NGO) which helps young people achieve their goals through the sports medium. Stan has also served as a cricket coach, a school inspector, a school teacher and and also served as the Head Coach with North Coast Academy of Sport.

“I know it’s a bit of a cliché and everyone says, ‘you don’t do it for the recognition, you do it because you believe in it’, but it’s true,” Stan said.

“I think it’s an award for all the people who worked on all the committees … I just sit back and take the glory. I delegate and don’t get in the way and let people just get on with the job,” he added.
