England’s opening batsman Adam Lyth has not been in form off late and has said to his friends that he will try and perform much better in the upcoming matches. 27-year old left-hander’s highest score in recently concluded Ashes 2015 was 37. Lyth has over 60,000 fans on Facebook and has written a lengthy letter to his followers regarding his poor run in the Ashes series. He said that there is no alibi and rationalisation that can be put forth for his below par performance in the series. Lyth, who also plays for Yorkshire is in danger of not being picked for future series after his poor show. He averaged just 12.77 in nine innings of the five Test matches.
Lyth wrote on Facebook, “This experience has made me hungrier, you donât become a bad player overnight and you donât in five games either. Itâs been an incredible few weeks and now Iâm an Ashes winner, nobody can take that away from me!” He added that he wished to score heavily in county cricket to convince the selectrors to pick him for future tours. Â “It could have gone better on a personal note but thatâs cricket and that can happen when youâre facing one of the best attacks in the world on testing pitches. Going forwards I have learnt a lot in this series and hopefully I can go back to Yorkshire, score some runs and help them with the County Championship,” he elaborates. During Ashes, Lyth was found wanting against the moving ball and consistently edged it to the wicket-keeper and slip cordon. The Australian fast bowlers capitalised on his weakness. âThe Aussies have bowled well in testing conditions, I have copped some decent balls but Iâve played some bad shots which Iâm disappointed about but thatâs cricket and you go through spells like that. Iâm not one to point at excuses at all, Iâve been hitting the ball well all summer but I just havenât done it out in the middle in this Ashes series.” READ: Ashes 2015: Michael Clarke, Adam Lyth throw away excellent opportunities to silence critics
âI donât really pay attention to people talking about who will open in the UAE with Alastair Cook, itâs completely out of my hands who the selectors pick. I know exactly what I have to do and that is score big runs for Yorkshire, itâs as simple as that. It really does mean a hell of a lot that the captain, coach and selectors have stuck with me and hopefully they will continue to do that but I have to do my job which is scoring runs. I will be doing everything within my powers to do that and then you never know what will happen over the winter.â Well, it can be observed from the detailed post by Lyth that he has a lot of fans. Fellow-teammate Ian Bell also liked his post.
