Following his impactful performances last season, Essex have had no second conflicting thoughts regarding Adam Zampa and signed the Australian legspinner for the 2019 T20 Blast, hoping for a repeat show from him. Zampa, 26, was Essex’s leading-wicket last season, finishing with 12 wicket at an average of 20.75.

As per Zampa’s new deal, the legspinner can play for Essex even during the knockouts, provided the team qualifies. Last year, Essex finished third from bottom winning just two of their 14 league matches. Essex have also signed Cameron Delport, who has agreed to join the county for the 2019 and 2020 Vitality Blast tournaments, having benefitted from his UK Ancestry visa.

“I’m looking forward to getting back to Chelmsford and playing in front of that great crowd again. We didn’t perform to the levels we were capable of last year and that’s something we all want to put right. The club and the fans deserve a good campaign and that’s what we’ll aim to deliver,” said Zampa, who recently returned to Australia’s ODI and T20 fold as well.

Essex Head coach Anthony McGrath was optimistic that Zampa coming on board promises to hold the team in good stead.

“We saw how talented Zamps is with the ball last year and he’s one of the best leg-spinners around at the moment. He was excellent for us last season and he’s a great lad to have around the changing room, so we’re thrilled he’s going to be back with us from July,” McGrath said.
