Adam Zampa ruled out of IPL 2025, Sunrisers Hyderabad name 21-year-old Indian as replacement

In a massive turn of event, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) leg-spinner Adam Zampa has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The IPL officially went to their social media on April 14 and announced the Australian spinner leaving the tournament because of an injury.

The injury and it’s scale has not been disclosed by SRH, as they only mentioned Zampa being ‘injured’, but he has been replaced by 21-year-old Indian bowled Smaran Ravichandran. Ravichandran hails from Karnataka, and has been taken in at his base price of Rs. 30 lakhs.

Smaran Ravichandran has represented Karnataka in India’s domestic circuit, as he has played 7 first-class matches, 10 List A matches and 6 T20 matches. Smaran has amassed 1100 runs, and is going to be available for the team selection starting SRH’s next clash against Mumbai Indians on April 17.

Smaran went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega-auction, but it was his performance after the event that made the selectors rethink their choice on letting him go. He scored a stunning century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy final for Karnataka, and more hundreds in the Ranji Trophy.

Though Ravichandran can bowl decently, he is usually a top/middle-order batter and can perform much better with the bat. On the other hand, if talking about Adam Zampa, he had played only two matches in this season and secured as many wickets.

Talking about Ravichandran’s involvement in IPL, he was reported to be a part of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)’s pre-season net player, and had even impressed the coaches. Though there is a low chance to seem him get a chance in SRH right after getting taken in the team, there is definitely a chance for a future star to come out.
