Mohali: Mar 31, 2011

Smarting from the 29-run defeat against arch-rivals India in the World Cup semifinal at Mohali, Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi said that he doesn’t anticipate a violent backlash from fans when the men in green return home.

“I think people in Pakistan do realise the effort the team have put in. Winning six out of eight matches is a huge achievement and we have confidence in our fans. People who love you so much can also criticise you, so it’s not a big deal.”

He said that his team have done exceedingly well to reach the semifinals when nobody was hoping them to progress to the last-four stage.

“In my opinion we have played better than 2003 and 2007 when our teams were much better. Nobody was expecting anything from this team. I am proud of this team,” Afridi told reporters after the match.
