Smarting from the 29-run defeat against arch-rivals India in the World Cup semifinal at Mohali, Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi said that he doesnât anticipate a violent backlash from fans when the men in green return home.
Â
“I think people in Pakistan do realise the effort the team have put in. Winning six out of eight matches is a huge achievement and we have confidence in our fans. People who love you so much can also criticise you, so itâs not a big deal.”

He said that his team have done exceedingly well to reach the semifinals when nobody was hoping them to progress to the last-four stage.

“In my opinion we have played better than 2003 and 2007 when our teams were much better. Nobody was expecting anything from this team. I am proud of this team,” Afridi told reporters after the match.
