After Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius is found convicted of murdering his girlfriend and South African model Reeva Steenkamp with the help of a cricket bat, another story of assault using the willow surfaces as an 11-year old Kolkata student gets hit on his head with a cricket bat by his teacher as a punishment. Shahin Mondal, a student of North Point Senior Secondary School, Rajarhat received a severe punishment for not being able to answer a few questions asked by his teacher during the class as he was beaten afterwards with a wooden cricket bat by the teacher on his head. He was taken to a nearby private hospital by the school authority. READ: Pistorius used Gibbs-signed bat to kill girlfriend

Mondal had to be given six stitches to stop the bleeding. The incident took place on November 30, while his parents were informed about it only on December 2 once he was released from the hospital and reached home. The parents have lodged a complaint with the Rajarhat Police station and police has begun their routine enquiry. The suspected teacher, however, has been suspended by the school authority.

Oscar Pistorius was recently found guilty of murdering his girlfriend as he shot her down in his bathroom and afterwards used a cricket bat signed by Herschelle Gibbs to cause further harm. While cricket is a medium of entertainment for people worldwide, using a cricket bat for such heinous offences spreads terror. Pistorius is currently under house arrest after he spent one of his five years of imprisonment sentenced to him.
