India batsman Ajinkya Rahane on Tuesday fell after scoring48 off 117 balls, as the team continued to struggle against Australia in the third Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Rahane was caught by Shaun Marsh off Josh Hazlewood.

This was after Rahane completed 1,000 runs in Test cricket, during the third Test. Rahane completed the feat in his 13th Test and 26th innings, and achieved the feat during the fifth day’s play, as India were chasing 384 runs to win.

Rahane has cemented his spot in the lower-order in the Indian batting line-up in Test cricket, after a disappointing debut against Australia at New Delhi in 2013. A distinct feature in Rahane’s career so far is the fact that out of the first 1,000 runs in his Test career, he scored only eight at home and the rest have come overseas.

Rahane has a batting average in excess of 45, and has struck three centuries and six half-centuries so far. His maiden Test century came at Wellington in February 2014 against New Zealand, wherein he scored 118 off 158 balls hitting 17 fours and a massive six.
