Ajinkya Rahane equals Rahul Dravid in innings taken to get 2,000-run milestone in ODIs, during India vs Australia 2015-16

Ajinkya Rahane has established yet another similarity with his guru Rahul Dravid by taking the exact same number of innings to reach the 2,000-career-runs milestone in the One-Day International (ODI) format. Rahane achieved the milestone in the second ODI against Australia at Brisbane in 63 innings, the same number that Dravid had consumed to get to the mark. Dravid is often recalled by commentators and fans when Rahane bats because the latter’s style resembles that of Dravid. Dravid and Rahane are both very dependable batsmen and moreover Rahane trained under Dravid when the duo were at Rajasthan Royals — the now suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) team. Both of them opened for the team together and some of Dravid’s qualities rubbed off onto Rahane during that period. Rahane is now one of the most reliable batsmen in the Indian line-up like Dravid was in his day. Even in the game where he got the milestone he played a solid innings of 89 from just 80 deliveries to help India to a score of 308-8 in fifty overs. India’s innings also received a great deal of impetus from Rohit Sharma who scored yet another ton. His innings brought him and the team a bonanza of 124 runs before he was dismissed in an unusual manner. James Faulkner dropped a fast return catch headed his was of Rahane’s willow, but the ball went on to hit the non-striker’s bails and Rohit was run out in the most unfortunate manner or he could have scored a few more.
