Alastair Cook scores third consecutive Test century

England captain Alastair Cook scored his third consecutive Test century in the first innings of the Kolkata Test against India on Thursday.
Cook became the sixth England batsman, after Herbert Sutcliffe, Denis Compton, Sir Geoffrey Boycott, Graham Gooch, Ravi Bopara, to score three consecutive Test hundreds. He is also the second player to do so against India after Gooch.

Cook has been in blistering form and has had a wonderful 2012 with the bat, scoring over 1156 in the 14 Tests he has played so far and is currently second on the list of highest run getters in 2012, behind Australian captain Michael Clarke who has had an outstanding year with the bat too.
This century also happens to be Cook’s 23rd Test century, the most by an English batsman. He also broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record to become the youngest batsman in history to score 7000 Test runs.
