England cricketer Start Broad says Alex Hales is deserving enough to get a chance in the England Test team following his recent performances. Hales has consistently performed in the limited overs format and according to his Nottinghamshire team-mate, it is the right time to test his potentials by letting him play Test matches for his country. Hales, who has recently scored his maiden One-Day International (ODI) century against Pakistan, is sure to get a spot in the next Test series against South Africa and the selectors will look forward to check on him as a promising opener for future. The three match Test series against Pakistan in United Arab Emirates (UAE) saw Moeen Ali open for England. Though considered as a dependable and promising player, Moeen Ali failed to live up to the expectations and managed to score only 84 in the six innings he played. Selector James Whitaker is learnt to have said that Hales will be tried as a new Test opener along with Alastair Cook on their tour to South Africa. On that note, Broad said, “Alex averaged over 50 in the Championship last season and deserves his chance. He got his first (one-day) hundred for England the other day and I think everyone in Nottingham jumped up.” He also added, “Alex didn’t open in the UAE because we went down a different tactical route but it is there for him now. James Whitaker has said they are looking for Alex to open and hopefully it goes well for him in the first few warm-up games.”

Other two players who played exceptionally well in the current season are Samit Patel and James Taylor. Broad mentioned, “James Taylor has been such a consistent performer for both Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire and really deserves a good run And in Dubai and Sharjah, Samit Patel worked so hard. He played the last Test match and it was great to see him switch his mind on to working hard on his fitness and his skills and he really deserves his call-up.”
