Rayudu put a strong case forward for his place in the marquee event after finishing the India-New Zealand ODI series as the highest run-getter,

Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly feels that Ambati Rayudu will most definitely travel to the ICC 2019 World Cup as part of the Indian squad.

Rayudu put a strong case forward for his place in the marquee event after finishing the India-New Zealand ODI series as the highest run-getter, scoring 190 runs in five matches, including a man winning 90 in the fifth ODI.

“Rayudu played well. He fizzled out in the middle but has played well overall and I think he will go to the WC and he will play in India after this and he will score runs and go to the WC,” Ganguly was quoted saying by India TV.

“This is a settled team and the 14-15 core of the team is settled and I hope all these players are fit come the World Cup and this team will be a strong team,” he added.

During India’s ODI leg of the Australia tour, stand-in opener Rohit Sharma’s statement that MS Dhoni is the ideal No.4 for India going in to the World Cup stirred things up.

This despite the fact that the Indian team management had put their weight behind Rayudu, for the crucial two down position, in recent times.

nd ahead of the New Zealand ODI series skipper Virat Kohli also said that the No 4 spot needed to be “solidified”, putting in doubt Rayudu’s place in the XI.

However, the 33-year-old seemed to have heard his captain and with 190 runs in five matches against the Black Caps – the highest in the series – has all but ‘solidified’ the place.
