Amjad Khan, famous for his role of Gabbar Singh in the iconic Bollywood movie Sholay, could not have been more happy and proud when not only the film celebrated its 40th year anniversary this week but his son, Seemab Khan, provided a match-winning performance for Dadar Union Sporting Club against Shivaji Park Youngsters (SPY) in a âBâ division Kanga League match at Mahul. Amjad Khanâs son Seemab, who is a leg-spinner, claimed five wickets for 25 runs against SPY. âI really enjoyed the challenge of bowling in tough conditions. I was aiming to help my team end up with an outright win, but that was not to be. Playing in the âBâ division is tougher as compared to âCâ division. The SPY batsmen were difficult to unsettle,â Seemab was quoted as saying by mid-day.
Reacting to his five-wicket hail coinciding with Sholayâs 40th anniversary, Seemab said, âItâs a very good coincidence that I helped my side to win on the day after Sholayâs 40th anniversary. Iâm very happy.â
Speaking about the leg-spinner, Dadar Union coach Sandeep Dahad said, âSeemab bowled very aggressively. He was quick through the air and extracted a good amount of turn on a wet pitch. It was an impressive performance. He is a very serious cricketer and determined to do well in the âBâ division after claiming 30 wickets for Maskati CC in last yearâs Kanga League in which he had two successive seven-wicket hauls (vs Gaud Saraswat and Young Friends CC) in the âCâ division.â
Seemab revealed that he will be focusing on cricket and losing weight. âIâve lost 12 kilos in the last seven weeks thanks to my cricket training. My dream to play for Mumbai is very much alive,â he said. Seemab led Rizvi to victory in the inter-collegiate competition in 2000.
