James Anderson snared two crucial wickets in the middle overs as England staged a magnificent fightback against South Africa in their World Cup Group B match against England at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Anderson removed the in-form AB de Villiers and JP Duminy in quick succession after the run out of Faf du Plessis as South Africa made heavy weather of a Englandâs smallish target of 171 for victory reaching 127 for 7 in 27 overs.

This was after South African openers Hashim Amla and Graeme Smith raised an opening stand of 63 before Graeme Swann removed Smith for 22. Swann also got rid of Jacques Kallis while Stuart Broad dislodged Amala as South Africa reached 82 for 3 in 20 overs.

Earlier, England rode on half-centuries from Jonathan Trott and Ravi Bopara to raise a score of 171 after losing three early wickets to left-arm spinner Robin Peterson.
