England and Wales Cricket Board s (ECB) Director of Cricket, Andrew Strauss who left for England during Ashes 2017-18 tour of Australia has decided to stay with his family. This comes in after he received news that her wife Ruth McDonald has been diagnosed with cancer. The announcement was made by ECB s official Twitter handle.

The tweet read, Andrew Strauss, Director of England cricket, will not return to The Ashes this winter. His wife, Ruth, has been diagnosed with cancer and is going through a series of medical tests before Christmas. His family need Andrew s full support at this time.

Strauss left for England after the second Test at Adelaide and was to return before start of Boxing-Day Test in Melbourne. Strauss found support in Kevin Pietersen. Pietersen and Strauss have been at loggerheads ever since the former s ouster from England set-up.

Pietersen in his tweet said, “Here ends ANY tension I may have with Andrew Strauss.What he s going through with his family puts life into perspective. Thinking of the Strauss family!”

England and Australia are currently playing the third Test of the series at WACA, Perth. Another defeat and England will concede the Ashes.
