Angelo Mathews, who will be leading Sri Lanka against New Zealand in the one-off Twenty20 match, said he is not bothered by the criticisms by chief selector Ashantha de Mel and he will continue to prepare himself.
“People have different opinions and they shouldn`t get into me,” Mathews was quoted as saying by Zee News.
Earlier, De Mel said that the all-rounder has lost his power shot and depends on reverse and paddle sweeps to score runs.
In the ICC World Twenty20 Championship, Mathews was bowled thrice by West Indian skipper Darren Sammy.
He was appointed the captain of the T20 side after Mahela Jayawardene stepped down as the captain, following his side’s ICC World T20 defeat.
Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga was appointed the vice-captain and will continue along with Mathews, depending on their leadership qualities.
Mathews added that he was looking forward to his stint as a captain and will learn from Jayawardene.
