Kumble, an Indian legend, is the third-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket with 619 scalps. He is behind only Muttiah Muralitharan (800) and Shane Warne (708) in terms of wickets taken. Kumble is also one of India’s finest ever Test captains, though his rein lasted just about a year. He was the interim captain between the stints of Rahul Dravid and MS Dhoni. Kumble famously said after the infamous and controversial 2008 Sydney Test, “only one team played in the spirit of the game.” Those were the words that rocked the establishment and made Australian cricket look within. Kumble also has one Test hundred, scored against England at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. With that innings, Kumble became the only cricketer with over 500 Test wickets as well as a Test match century.
