Mumbai: May 26, 2013

In the vitiated atmosphere following the arrest of Sreesanth & Co., rumours abound about the involvement of other cricketers. The latest to suffer unsubstantiated rumours is Chris Gayle of Royal Challengers Bangalore, who is alleged to have received valuable gifts from bookies who allegedly were involved in IPL spot fixing case. According to reports, Gayle received gold jewellery worth Rs 4.5 lakh from Pavan and Sanjay, the owner of Moti Sons Jewellers.

According to some leading TV channels, Gayle was seen with Sreesanth in a showroom in Jaipur and that the duo had bought jewelleries and the bill was paid by Jiju Janardhan [Biju], who has also been arrested by Delhi Police.

Obviously, Gayle too has heard the allegations against him in the media, which the Jamaican promptly denied on his verified Twitter account by tweeting, “Don’t believe everything you read or hear #rumours”.
