THE LASHING rain in London on Sunday forced the umpires to call stumps early on Day 4, with Australia closing the day four on 135 for no loss, still, 249 runs away from taking the Ashes 3-1 and England needing 10 wickets to level the series.

However, rain and bad weather at the Kennington Oval will be playing spoilsport once again on the fifth day of the final Ashes 2023 Test. The precipitation chances are as high as 85 per cent and rain is predicted throughout the day, although the chances will get slim as the day proceeds.

If the final day is washed out, Australia will win the series by 2-1. The visitors are currently in a strong position in the match but England need the game to proceed in order to make a comeback in the match and level the series 2-2.

Rain To Spoil Stuart Broad’s Farewell

Broad, 37, announced that he would be retiring from all forms of the game after the play ended on Day Three. He finishes his career with 602 Test scalps, being one of just two fast bowlers to take more than 600 Test wickets, alongside longtime bowling partner James Anderson, who strode out to bat alongside Broad on Day Four of the match.

After bowling England out inside the first two overs of the day, Australia’s openers Usman Khawaja (69) and David Warner (58) laid a solid foundation for the big chase of 384 runs with an unbeaten 135-run stand before rain halted play when players took off drinks break in the second session.

Both Anderson and Broad love the overcast conditions. If rain doesn’t play a huge role the veteran pacers will like to utilise the condition and get some quick breakthroughs for the English side on the final day of the final Test.

Broad would love to add some more wickets to his tally before he hangs the boots after a 17-year-long career.
