ENGLAND Test captain Ben Stokes made a huge mistake on the final day of the fifth Ashes 2023 Test being played at the Kennington Oval in London that might just cost the host nation the series to the Aussies.
The English skipper dropped the catch of Steve Smith right before lunch. Stokes did catch the ball but dropped it while celebrating, as Stokes wasn’t in complete control of the ball, the umpire called it a not-out.
Then Stokes went upstairs for a review despite himself being unsure of the catch. After this, some of the fans on social media are calling him out over his controversial call for the review. Umpires called for lunch after that over.
Australia is on 238/3 and need 146 runs in the remaining two sessions. On the other hand, England are still in need of 7 wickets.
Rain Halts Play After Lunch
As the players were preparing to come out after lunch, Rain paid a visit and stopped the game. Bad weather is playing spoilsport once again for England. The lashing rain in London on Sunday forced the umpires to call stumps early on Day 4 also and the same threat is looming large on Day 5.
If the final day is washed out, Australia will win the series by 2-1. The visitors are currently in a strong position in the match but England need the game to proceed in order to make a comeback in the match and level the series 2-2.
