Chennai Super Kings (CSK) romped home to a convincing victory over the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2015 encounter at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. CSK had scored 181 and then strangled RCB during their run-chase. Ashish Nehra was the star for them yet again as his spell of four for ten helped CSK win it by 27 runs.  Live updates: Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings Match 20 IPL 2015

Chasing 182 to win, RCB kept losing wickets at regular intervals and seemed to have lost the plot as the overs went by. Virat Kohli was one batsman who stayed through the ruins in an innings that had its promising phases. Batsmen who got starts could not carry on. Manvinder Bisla and Rilee Rossouw opened he batting in the absence of Chris Gayle and gave them a decent start before Nehra dismissed both. Dinesh Karthik got a start but was then brilliantly held by Dwayne Bravo. Live scorecard: Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings Match 20 IPL 2015

A lot of the hopes were pinned on AB de Villiers, who fuelled them with a couple of huge hits. But, it was deja vu World Cup, as a throw from the deep had de Villiers short with Dhoni shattering the stumps. Sarfaraz Khan, who became the youngest player in IPL history, gave a good account of himself when he hit Ravindra Jadeja for a six, but he soon holed out to the deep.

Kohli held on and completed his fifty with a dazzling array of strokes, but with the required rate mounting, he holed out to mid-wicket. Nehra was the successful bowler yet again. The veteran has had a brilliant season so far. He then went on to dismiss Harshal Patel to bag his first four-for this season. That was the end of RCB’s fight.

Put in to bat, CSK had scored 181 for eight, which was quite a good score. However, at the innings break, CSK would have been disappointed given the fact that they were 124 for two in the 13th over, looking good for 200. Suresh Raina had smashed 62 off 32 balls, clearing the boundaries with ease. However, CSK then lost wickets at regular intervals, denting their score. They had rejigged their batting line-up. MS Dhoni had walked in at No. 4 and could not get going. Then Ravindra Jadeja came ahead of Faf du Plessis and Dwayne Bravo, a move that did not work.

CSK lost their last six wickets for only 53 runs. Du Plessis was the only one who managed to score in the slog overs, hitting an 18-ball 33 not out. A lot of the credit has to go the RCB spinners, Yuzvendra Chahal and Iqbal Abdulla, who did get hit around a touch but picked up five wickets between them. Chahal in fact opened the bowling and did a good job through the innings. It was only Raina’s assault that spoilt his bowling figures. IPL 2015: Complete Coverage
