Former England cricketer Ashley Giles will participate in the highest cricket match ever staged. The venue would be just below the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, which is at 5,875 m.
Along with Giles, England women cricketer Heather Knight will also participate in the expedition. The teams will take six days to reach the venue, and play a 20-over game at sub-zero temperature on the seventh day.
“I’ve gone the distance in my time. But I’ve never had to walk 20,000 feet to get the ball back.”, Giles was quoted as saying by telegraph.co.uk.
“I’ve never done anything like this before – never climbed a mountain. I might have to ask Makhaya Ntini for a piggyback. He’ll be the fittest person there by a country mile as he grew up walking everywhere, didn’t he?”, he added.
