Umar Gul sent the dangerous Kusal Perera back to the pavilion to give Pakistan the early breakthrough against Sri Lanka in the opening match of the of Asia Cup 2014 in Fatullah.
Perera played some sparkling shots but often flirted with danger, always looking to clear the fence. Misbah-ul-Haq knew exactly the kind of field placements ton be set to the southpaw and the excellent Umar Gul, who almost got his man in the previous over after a leg before appeal was turned down, cramped the batsman for room and Perera nicked the ball straight to keeper Umar Akmal.
Earlier, Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews won the toss and elected to bat first on what looks like a good batting wicket. The notable inclusion was of Chaturanga de Silva, coming in place of Tillakaratne Dilshan.
