Asia Cup 2018: Don’t think MS Dhoni enjoyed Mohammad Shahzad’s century, jokes Asghar Afghan

During the press conference after a memorable tie against India in Dubai on Tuesday, Asghar Afghan, the captain of Afghanistan, made several punchy statements about his team’s performance in the 2018 Asia Cup.

One of the questions posed to Afghan was about how he felt about Afghanistan opener Mohammad Shahzad’s 124 off 116 balls, with 11 fours and seven sixes, one of which was an imitation of MS Dhoni’s signature helicopter shot. Shahzad’s self-confessed cricketing hero is Dhoni – his initials are also MS - who captained India on Tuesday for the 200th time with Rohit Sharma rested ahead of Friday’s final.

The Afghanistan skipper’s reply was brief but funny.

Hum bhi bahut enjoy rahe the … Mere khayaal mean MS ne enjoy nahin kiya kyunki usko maar pad rahi thi udhar … toh humne bahut enjoy kiya. [We enjoyed his innings, but I don’t think MS enjoyed it because he [sic India] were getting hit around the ground, but we really enjoyed it],” he said with a grin.
