Pat Cummins (25*) and Ashton Agar (22*) provided Australia with some last-moment cheer, as they built a good partnership post the flop batting show by the mainstays, in the first Test against Bangladesh. The hosts were bundled for 260 on the opening day at Shere Bangla National Stadium, but went on to reduce the visitors to 18 for 3 before stumps. Australia went on losing further wickets on the second day. There was only one partnership formed that added in excess of fifty runs till the first session. In the second session of the day, the Cummins-Agar partnership came in handy for Australia to keep their hopes alive of taking the lead. They now have 193 for 8 on the board, trailing by 67.

Right before lunch, Australia lost the two set batsmen, Peter Handscomb and Matt Renshaw. Glenn Maxwell and Matthew Wade survived the final few overs before lunch but could not last long post the break. Wade was beaten for turn by Mehedi and was given out lbw. Though Australia had both their reviews intact, he decided not to use them. Later, the ball-tracking showed ball missing the stumps. Maxwell was stumped later, as he came out of the crease to get to a delivery that Shakib Al Hasan pitched outside off-stump.

Cummins had a tough time towards the start of his innings. He was dropped for 1 by Shafiul Islam as Shakib produced a chance. He almost got an edge off the batsman the very next ball. Umpire Aleem Dar declared it out when a confident Cummins reviewed the decision to overturn it. He then built a crucial partnership with Agar that added 49 runs and was unbroken till tea.

Brief scores:

Bangladesh 260 lead Australia 193 for 8 (Matt Renshaw 45, Peter Handscomb 33; Mehedi Hasan 3 for 52, Shakib Al Hasan 3 for 54) by 67 runs.
