Melbourne: There was a bit of suspense over the person who would present the trophy to the winning captain after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Some said it would be Sachin Tendulkar, the legendary cricketer and the brand ambassador of the World Cup, while others felt the International Cricket Council (ICC) President Mustafa Kamal would present it. Srinivasan took over as Chairman of the ICC last year. He heads the governing body of the sport and is perhaps the most important figure in the ICC. In previous years, the ICC President has handed the trophy to the winners. In 2011, it was the then president, Sharad Pawar, who presented the trophy to MS Dhoni, the winning captain. While Srinivasan will present the trophy, Tendulkar and Kamal would be present in Melbourne on the day of the final. Tendulkar’s role as the ambassador brings him to the city. He had also attended the game between India and South Africa in Melbourne. Meanwhile, Kamal is the president and has to attend the final.
