Australia coach Justin Langer said that the team management is pondering over how to manage the workload of the pacers during the ongoing Pakistan series.

“Starcy (Mitchell Starc) bowled a lot of overs first innings, we certainly understand that. “It’s always the million-dollar question, what do we do with the fast bowlers?”, said Langer, after Australia earned a credible draw in the 1st Test in Dubai.

Langer said that preserving the quicks for the upcoming India series at home and later on for the ICC World Cup in England next year, will be the key.

“Because if we’ve got our fast bowlers, particularly in Australia or going forward to England next year, like the opening partnership (or) the top three (batters, they are) incredibly important to Australia being successful,” he said.

However, he is confident that the team will manage. “We’ll manage it. It’s the start of the season and hopefully we’ll manage them well throughout the summer and this tour so far,”he added.

Australia have uncapped quicks Michael Neser and Brendan Doggett in reserve but with the series on the line may be reluctant to leave out kingpin Starc or 63-Test veteran Siddle.

Australia captain Tim Paine had also said ahead of the series that managing his strike bowler Mitchell Starc will be crucial, considering regulars Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins are out with injuries.

We have to be really careful with all our quicks over there,” Paine had said, adding, “It’s going to be over 40 degrees and really high humidity so we’re going to have to be clever about how we use our bowlers. Starcy, in particular, who is a strike weapon – I expect him to be bowling short spells and as fast as he can. We’re hopeful – no, we’re sure – Starcy will have a really big series, and if he does, it will go a long way towards winning it for us.”
