Australia likely to retain services of Sridharan Sriram for Sri Lanka tour

Former India all-rounder Sridharan Sriram is likely to carry on his role of batting consultant of the Australian team for their tour of Sri Lanka. Australia is expected to make an announcement sometime in the coming week. Sriram was also part of the Australian backroom staff, when they played in the T20 World Cup in India. He also coached the Australia A team and was part of Australia’s National Cricket Academy. The former Tamil Nadu skipper is currently employed with the Indian Premier League (IPL) side Delhi Daredevils (DD), where he is the Assistant Coach. Sriram’s current contract with us is till September. We are still in the process of finalising our coaching staff for the tour. Our appointments will be confirmed in the next week or so,” a source told Times of India.

“He has a contract with us goes beyond the men’s team. He will also be doing some work with our national performance squad in the coming months,” the source added.

After he was initially appointed, Sriram said, “I’ve played international cricket for India and I’m looking forward to sharing my experience and knowledge of subcontinental conditions with the squad.

The Australian cricket team talks about ‘one-percenters’ and my role will be to contribute that one percent to help the team adapt to the conditions and opponents quickly, which can ultimately influence the outcome of the game.”
