While Australia struggle to finalise the opening pair for the upcoming One-Day International series against England, opener David Warner said he and Matthew Wade need to be careful to keep the scoreboard ticking and rely less on hitting.

“That is part of our game where we can get away or we can get bogged down a little bit. We are working on that a lot,” Warner said.

The left-handed explosive opener said he will need to tone down his cavalier approach to the game in the seamer-friendly English conditions.

“It is about trying to pull it in early because it does a bit early here,” Warner was quoted as saying by Sydney Morning Herald.

“I have to adjust it,” he told Sydney Morning Herald.

Australia coach Mickey Arthur confirmed on Monday his side is looking to get the opening combination right ahead of their opening match against England at Lord s on Friday.

Arthur said selectors were still trying to strike the perfect balance in terms of working out who should take guard for the start of the innings alongside David Warner.
