BCCI have recalled Rohit Sharma and Parthiv Patel for the Australia series, naming the duo in the Virat Kohli-led 18-member squad for the four-match Test series Down Under, while Murali Vijay, after being dropped for the West Indies series, has also made a comeback.

Rohit last played Tests for India during the South Africa series earlier this year, managing scores of 11,10,10 and 47 in two Tests and was dropped for the subsequent tour of England. Patel played the last Test match in that series scoring 2 and 16 but had lost his place to Dinesh Karthik for the England tour.

But, Karthik’s poor form both with the bat and the gloves facilitated debut for Rishabh Pant and the Delhi player now goes in to the Australia series as the first choice wicketkeeper. Patel, 33, will travel to Australia for the second time, as the back up wicketkeeping option.

With Hardik Pandya ruled out with injury, India have retained Ravindra Jadeja. Kuldeep Yadav retains his place from the West Indies series so does Ravichandran Ashwin. Mohammad Siraj and Shardul Thakur make way for a returning Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar while Ishant Sharma, back to 100 per cent fitness from ankle injury, will also travel to Australia along side Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav.

Prithvi Shaw and Hanuma Vihari have also retained their places, alongside regulars Cheteshwar Pujara and vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane. Mayank Agarwal misses out after being named in the squad for the 1st Test against West Indies.
