South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first. They got off to shaky start as Dean Elgar was dismissed early on in the innings. Stephen Cook got a start but Mitchell Starc got the better of him with a beauty. JP Duminy, Hashim Amla floundered early on in the innings but Du Plessis stood at the other end like a rock. Du Plessis decalred the South African innings at 259 for the loss of nine wickets and invited Australia to bat under the lights. His intent was clear but Australia did well in not losing a single wicket at stumps. Day 2 will be crucial as this pitch is a result oriented and both the teams will give their best to win this game. South Africa will be eyeing to register a whitewash while Australia will be trying to avoid it. Expect another action packed day at Adelaide.
