Australia Women continued their unbeaten march against India Women in the T20I triangular series as well. After beating the hostsâ 0-3 in ODIs, Meg Lanningâs team went to notch up their first win of the series at Brabourne Stadium by 6 wickets. Chasing 153 to win, Beth Mooney and Elyse Villani steered Australia past rough waters amidst Jhulan Goswami’s storm.
Returning to the Indian set up, Jhulan Goswami provided her side a near-perfect start. She claimed wickets of Alyssa Healy and Ashleigh Gardner for 4 and 15 respectively. Both Alyssa and Ashleigh getting bowled off Jhulan.
Beth and Elyse absorbed pressure from Jhulan and co. early in their innings. After getting their eye-set in, they blasted on to the scene. They completed battered the likes of Harmanpreet Kaur, Rumeli Dhar and Shikha Pandey to bits.
The pair added 79 runs for the third wicket before Jhulan brought some excitement back for the home side. She got rid of Beth (45), who looked good for a half-century. Poonam Yadav struck soon, getting a simple caught and bowled of Villani (39).
Meg Lanning and Rachael Haynes ensured that Australia did not suffer any other heartache. Lanning scored 35 off 25 to help her side to reach their target of 153. Rachael remained unbeaten on 12.
Batting first India managed to make 152 for 5. It was Smriti Mandhana’s knock of 67 runs that helped India reach 100-run mark. Another collapse saw India slump from 99 for 1 to 100 for 4. Anuja Patil’s cameo of 35 runs did manage to save India from blues.
