Australian opener David Warner becomes a father

Australian opener David Warner became a father as his wife Candice Falzon gave birth to a baby daughter, Ivy Mae Warner.

According to a report on cricket.com.au, the couple were gifted with a baby daughter at around 1:50 pm in the Royal Women’s Hospital on Thursday. The baby daughter weighs in at 2.8 kgs and is doing well. David Warner’s team-mates have backed his parental duties and believe he will be a good father.

“I think he’ll be a good father – he’ll be the same size as the baby actually so I think that’s a good start,” joked keeper-batsman Brad Haddin. “It’s the most exciting time of any parent’s life, the arrival of your first child and it’s obviously going to be a great time for him as it is for all of us who are parents.

“I’ve got three kids and he’s very good with my kids, they adore him, so I think he’ll fit in to fatherhood very well. “I wish him all the best, and he might as well start getting some sleep now!”

Off-spinner Nathan Lyon, a father of one with another on the way, has also been dishing out the advice to his Australia team-mate. “All us parents know that as soon as someone little comes into your life it changes your life for the better,” Lyon said. “I’ve been offering a bit of advice to Davey in terms of getting as much sleep as possible so I think he’s been taking it on board and going to bed pretty early.”

Earlier , Warner, 27, said impending fatherhood “couldn’t come at a better time”, and draws inspiration from his own father, Howard, and his brother Steven, who has three children of his own. “Everyone’s got their own ways of bringing up their kids,” he said. “I had a great upbringing and I learnt a lot on the way, with how my father treated me, and how my brother treats his three boys as well. “You learn from these things, get your own insights as to how you should be as a father, and hopefully I can take that on board. “It’s another phase of life for me. “I’m ready to raise a family and it’ll mean the world to me to see the little one grow from a baby, to an infant, to a child and into an adult. “For me, hopefully I can influence and be a role model for my child in years to come.”
